The Dewalt 18v to 20v MAX Adapter allows you to use Dewalt 20v lithium batteries on your Dewalt 18v tools. This is a very handy adapter.  What we typically see is the 18v battery goes bad way before the tools do. You can bring life back to your older tools that the battery has quit working on. Works with most 18v tools. It requires the use of a 20v charger to charge the 20v battery. Does not work with any 60v Flexvolt batteries. Do not use premium batteries on Dewalt models DC970 or DC759.
